Hazelnuts are experiencing a massive boom in popularity right now. Did you know they have another name: filberts? Check out our list to see how many of our other hazelnut facts you know!

1. Turkey is the largest producer of filberts in the world. They are also grown in Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, some European countries, and Australia. Ours come from Oregon.

2. After pollination, it takes about 7 – 8 months for a filbert nut to ripen and fall out of its husk on the bush.  

3. Filberts are also known as hazelnuts or cobnuts depending on the place they’re grown. 

 

4. These nuts are mainly used to make praline coatings. Pieces, powder, or paste are also used in the chocolate industry for making things like Nutella and chocolate truffles. They
are also popular in coffees and coffee creamers.

5. Filberts are one of only a few nuts that contains vitamin A, which helps keep the immune and reproductive systems healthy and is important for your vision. Filberts are also a rich source of vitamin E.
