Cashews are a crowd favorite. How much do you know about them?

1. Cashews primarily grow in India, Brazil, Mozambique, Tanzania, Vietnam, and countries in Southeast Asia. Our cashews come from India, Africa, and Southeast Asia.

2. From harvest to shelling, cashews go through an intense amount of hand labor. This is part of the reason they can be so expensive.

3. Inside the fruit of a cashew tree is a single seed: the cashew nut.  The nut is surrounded by a double shell that contains a potent skin irritant and toxin somewhat like poison ivy. For this reason, it’s illegal in the U.S. for cashews to be sold in their shells.

4. Cashews contain vitamins and minerals that contribute to heart health. They naturally contain 0% cholesterol.

5. They also have a high fiber content, and fiber keeps you feeling full for longer, contributing to weight loss when eaten in moderation and combined with other elements of proper diet and exercise.

6. You can see cashews in Thai, Indian, Chinese, and Japanese cuisine, among others.
