Here are four interesting facts about Brazil nuts.

1. The highest exporter of Brazil nuts is not Brazil but Bolivia. About 20,000 tons of the nuts are harvested each year. Ours come from this area.

2. Brazil nuts come from wild trees that grow up to 160 feet tall. It takes 14 months for the brazil fruit to mature.

3. The fruit itself is a large pod that can contain from 8 – 24 nuts that are enclosed in their own individual shells and are compartmentalized like segments of an orange.

4. These nuts are great for people with low thyroid function. Brazils are a good source of the mineral selenium, which we need to produce one of our most active thyroid hormones. It also supports immunity and help wounds heal. You only need 3-4 nuts a day to get all of the selenium you require.
